[리서치페이퍼=Fabian Rivera 기자] It just wasn't Padraig Harrington's day.
The golf pro was just trying to help, but wound up injured in the process.
Harrington, who tied for 31st at the Memorial last week, said he was trying to teach an amateur how to correct a hook in his drives. After demonstrating what the swing should look like, Harrington stepped away. The amateur kept swinging - and caught Harrington on the left elbow.
Convinced by intense pain that his elbow had been shattered, Harrington rushed to a clinic where his wound required six deep stitches.Doctors said the club hit Harrington flush on the middle of the elbow and cut into the bursa sac around the joint.
Harrington had to withdraw from the FedEx St Jude Classic in Memphis, Tennessee. He hopes to miss only two weeks of play.
The three-time major champion already missed three months to have neck surgery, and he was happy that he recovered in plenty of time to play the British Open and PGA Championship this summer. The Open is at Royal Birkdale, where the Irishman won in 2008.
Harrington gave the amateur a big hug after he was released from the hospital.
One consolation? The amateur duffer said Harrington's advice helped him straighten out his drive.
