More than 100 golfers competed for winning titles at this year's North Harbour Lydia Ko Junior Age Group Championship.

The Gulf Harbour Country Club was packed in its second year running the event on June 4 and 5.

The tournament, run by North Harbour Golf Association and hosted by Gulf Harbour, was financially supported by Lydia Ko as she represented North Harbour as an amateur, and Gulf Harbour was her last club in New Zealand.

The event comprised of 36 holes throughout the two days in six different age divisions.

Wainui's James Hydes won the under 19 boys division, Jake Lee from Muriwai/ Huapai won the under 16 boys and Jayden Ford from Judgeford won the under 14 boys division.

Gulf Harbour's Ela Grimwood won the under 19 girls division, Miree Jung from Titirangi won the under 16 girls and Yoonjeong Huh from Gulf Harbour won the under 14 girls division.

On the final day both James and Miree were given a one month scholarship from The Hills Academy.

They will to go to Australia and experience the high performance programmes at the academy and will play in some major tournaments.

James said the event was great and he really enjoyed himself.

"I have been playing for 10 years, this event was one of the best events I have played in.

"I was really excited to be able to play in the competition for the second time and to be in a tournament that is hosted by Lydia."

James was extremely happy to get his name on a trophy as this year was his last.

"My next plans are to play for New Zealand and gain good results for the rest of the year."

Andrew Leventis from Harbour Golf said there were a number of national and international competitors.

"We once again were completely oversubscribed with entries after a fantastic debut tournament last year.

"Lydia is so generous with her support of the association and district. Her involvement helps not just financially, but her allowing us to associate this even with her helps attract such strong field and so many entrants."

Harbour Golf looks forward to holding the tournament again next year.
