Nine golfers from Utah were among the 700-plus golfers trying to qualify for this month's U.S.Open at Wisconsin Monday at 10 sectional tournaments around the country.

But none of the nine was able to grab one of the 53 open spots for the tournament, which will be played June 15-18 at Erin Hills Country Club, near Milwaukee.

That leaves just one local golfer who will be competing in the Open.

Farmington's Daniel Summerhays, who led after three rounds of the Memorial Tournament before finishing in a tie for 10th place Sunday, is already in the U.S.Open by virtue of his high finish in last year's Open when he tied for 8th place.

Zac Blair, who plays out of St.George, came the closest, finishing two shots off the cut line in the sectional qualifying at Springfield CC in Springfield, Ohio.Blair shot rounds of 69 and 66 for a 135 total, but only four golfers made it out of the 77 players in the sectional with scores of 133 or better.

Lehi's Tony Finau, who tied for 14th in his only U.S.Open appearance in 2015, was two shots behind Blair at 137 with rounds of 68 and 69 at Springfield.

Six Utah golfers competed in Newport Beach, California, but none came close to qualifying.Six golfers made it through that sectional with scores of 137 or better.

Draper's Rhett Rasmussen finished at 148, St.George's Nick Killpack came in at 150, North Salt Lake's Kelton Hirsch had a score of 151, Ogden's Mitchell Schow and Layton's Brandon Kida both came in at 154 and Salt Lake's Brigham Gibbs finished at 157.

Also, University of Utah sophomore Jordan Costello missed qualifying at Tacoma Country and Golf Club in Lakewood, Washington, finishing at 157, well off the qualifying score of 141.
